{"id":11749,"date":"2026-04-14T17:11:27","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T21:11:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jforj.org\/campgilgal\/?p=11749"},"modified":"2026-04-14T17:11:29","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T21:11:29","slug":"dome-rotunda-a-whole-new-cave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jforj.org\/campgilgal\/dome-rotunda-a-whole-new-cave\/","title":{"rendered":"Dome Rotunda &#8211; A Whole New Cave"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4>by Rachel (Age 11 | Tribe of Simeon)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This year for our first field trip, we went to Howe Caverns.&nbsp; These caverns were outstanding!<\/p>\n<p>Lester Howe&#8217;s cows discovered the deep cavern.&nbsp; One day, instead of going under a shady tree, the cows stood in the pasture by a long, dark hole that blew out cold, cavern air.&nbsp; Lester created tours many years ago and the tours were dangerous.&nbsp; Finally, years passed and tours were remade so the dangers to the people and the cavern were eliminated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The amazing part of the cavern was that the boats that were made in the mid-1900s were still being used.&nbsp; I got scared when we were on the boat and it crashed into the walls.&nbsp; I thought we were going to tip over!&nbsp; Five minutes later I freaked out and thought we were going down a dark waterfall, but we were saved by the tour guide.<\/p>\n<p>Our camp went down the long, 50 S-turns.&nbsp; I freaked out in the closed spaces!&nbsp; At the end, I saw the new project the Howe Caverns owners were working on&#8211;the great Dome Rotunda.&nbsp; This dome hasn&#8217;t been seen by visitors for a century.&nbsp; It&#8217;s said that there are treasures found inside.&nbsp; I was excited to see it because it&#8217;s full of ancient history.&nbsp; The bad part was that I froze and felt like I was in a freezer!<\/p>\n<p>After, we went to an awesome park with cool obstacle courses.&nbsp; Finally, we came back to camp.&nbsp; I really want to go back.&nbsp; Yuk-Yuk handed us our tickets and that was the end of the adventure.&nbsp; I still have my ticket to remember the great trip!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Rachel (Age 11 | Tribe of Simeon) This year for our first field trip, we went to Howe Caverns.&nbsp; These caverns were outstanding!
