Just received your letter about Sean. Our condolences and prayers go out to you and your family. The seed has been placed in the ground, “…but its death will produce many new kernels–a plentiful harvest of new lives.” John 12:24 (NLT).

I had never heard who Sean Trank was until about a month ago, from our friends the Wertheims. Before hearing about Sean Trank, something funny happened a few months earlier.
To begin with, being that I am going into my senior year in highschool, I have been asked by a lot of people, “where do you want to go to college? What do you want to major in? And what do you want to do with your life after school?” I thought I had had my mind made up. Originally I had been considering putting my time and effort in pursuing a medical degree or if that didn’t work, then animation or cartooning. That all changed, however, right around November of 2013. After having volunteered at a hospital, I began realizing how disinterested I was in that field. I began feeling lost as to what I should do with myself, especially since all my friends seemed to know what they wanted to do and all had the A’s to do it. I began praying to God, “What do you want to do with me? I know you’ve put me here for a reason, but I’m struggling right now.” (I was adopted from Bulgaria when I was a toddler, and the story of my adoption was truly a miracle. To make a long story short, my parents were told it would be impossible to adopt me, but God made sure that He was in control, and that man could not be the deciding factor).
Just as all juniors do, I went and visited a couple colleges. My brother suggested SF state, which I had always been opposed to. (I guess it’s because it’s a state school, and most kids my age, think the only good college is a UC). Well I went there, come May, and guess what? I loved it! This is when something else funny happened. I felt a strong pull to the communications field, (which I learned SF states has an excellent program for). I couldn’t understand why?!? So for the past several months whenever someone would ask me what I wanted to do in college, I would respond, “communications.” People didn’t understand exactly why I would want to do that, nor could I, honestly. That was when I asked God, “what can I do with myself in communications? Newspaper, writing??? WHAT?”
So….about a month ago my mom started showing me posts from Jews for Jesus about a young man who was battling cancer. I had heard of Jews of Jesus before, but had never really thought much more past that. (I have grown up knowing about Jewish culture and loving it. My mom’s grandparents were Jewish and we had friends who were Jewish. Lately, we have found out more about my mom’s Jewish past. I had never really met Jews who were also believers. So as a young kid, although I loved the Jewish people and Israel, I never really felt I could be connected since I had thought you couldn’t be a Jew and a believer). A new hope and enthusiasm began growing inside me, however, when I began reading more and more about Jews for Jesus and their mission. Sean Trank stood out to me immensely! The fact that a young man with a job, a wife, and a loving family, could be so grateful to God, humbled me. He was so calm, and didn’t seem afraid. Just by reading a post and watching a video I could see a man after God’s own heart. For some reason his story stood out to me more than any other person’s cancer story has stood out to me. I began praying to God “please help Sean, I don’t know why you have allowed him to be sick and I don’t know if you will heal him, but please let this bring glory to you.”
My mom and I both attended Sean’s memorial service this morning in SF. (At first we thought we weren’t going to be able to make it because of the traffic), but we did! And I am so glad we did!! Although I never knew Sean personally I felt a connection to him, one that God had given me. While his brother and sister gave their accounts of his life I felt like I knew him and thought about meeting him someday in heaven, giving him a hug. Sean may have died physically, but by no means did he die in spirit. Not to me, and I’m sure not to anyone who was blessed by him. It was at his memorial service today that I found out he was a COMMUNICATIONS major! This totally stunned me! I learned 6 hours ago today why God pushed me to go into communications!! WOW how cool is God. I feel a strong push to get involved with Jews for Jesus and possibly work for them! I think I found my calling, thanks to Sean!

Heaven just got a little closer now that Sean is there. Praise be to God for Sean’s steadfastness to the gospel and for his love for Christ. Such a blessing to know him. I’m praying continued prayers for those who don’t know Christ who’ve been touched by Sean’s testimony, to come home to Jesus. 🙂

Sean leaves a wonderful legacy – he is to be greatly admired.
He is a true testament of a believer – may he rest safely in the
arms of Jesus. My love to the family.

I did not know Sean but I am aware of his work. I wish I knew him. My heart is with his family and friends. May his life be a blessing to those who have been a part of his life, and to those who get to know his story.
